This was the first version. The garland was too much so removed it also changed the stockings. Christmas 2012 |
This in the making. I used marble from an old dresser for the hearth.Anything that looks tipsy is because the floor is on a slant. |
this is fall of 2012. You can see the marble hearth here.See the mouse on electric fireplace.A cart of bears my favorites. |
Halloween 2012. My ghostly village with mice waiting for their dinner. |
This 2013 change. I like the blue dishes. I found another plate rack and painted it.I put up a new shelf and just a simple candle display |
close up of shelf and dishes. I had to fill holes and repaint them. Moved the sconces and replace with the little angel shelves. I like the arrangement better . My life has been a little hectic lately so may be just posting less often. Spring in Clayton will open up new shops and much needed road work. There will be a lot of traffic on my street as they are building a hugh hotel at the end of my street.there will be lots of yard work and garage sales all summer, yipee. http://betweennapsontheporch.net/ |

Love it, I never thought to do this around our woodstove :)
Well, what do you know... it seems that we have more in common than just our Mikasa china, Vernice! Our daughter gave us a small stove like that for Christmas. :~) The only differences that I can see, are the color (ours is brick red) and a
different handle on the door. I've been telling my husband that I'd like to add a mantle to it and now I have this wonderful inspiration from the beautiful job that you did on yours! I just love the addition of the blue and white plates and accessories, too. It all looks so fresh and crisp... just perfect for Spring and Summer! Thank you for sharing your project with us, Vernice. I hope you have a lovely week! ~Mary
thank you Mary for stopping by. I am glad to inspire you to make a mantle. Yes I have been getting a lot of those anonomous. It looks like it is something they are sending to every one as some don't make sense. I wish I knew how to stop it.I was hacked and had to redo everything. My son took care of it. They can steal your idenity.
You are so creative! I'm so impressed by your creativity and how you change things up around your stove, and your tablescapes. So very homey. You and I have blue and white dishes in common, they are my favorite. Any pattern, Willow blue, Currier & Ives, Canton, doesn't matter I love 'em all. I hope you're having warmer weather.
Hi, Vernice!!! I LOVE the 2013 look!!! The plates over the fireplace make a HUGE difference in the overall look!!! The blue & white also adds a lot of wonderful color! I am always so impressed by your hidden talents. You MADE things by hand??!?! I could never make anything out of wood...except maybe build a fire! :-) You really know how to reuse and recycle things! I'm also impressed that you know how to fill holes in the wall. I did it once in our old house, but I have long forgotten it. It's like taking a test in school: just learn the material, pass the test, forget about it! :-)
Enjoy yourself with all the shops opening and the garage sales! I know all the construction mess won't be fun, but at least you can do a little shopping and creating to make it less horrible. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!
Hi Vernice-
You've done a great job! The blue plates look great in your newest design. Your fireplace surround is very creative and cute! I have a rocking chair that looks identical,to yours. We got it when I had my first child in the 80's. I had to take a double take when I spotted yours!
Hi Vernice. Your mantel is lovely. you are so creative and it definitely shows. i have been away on vacation, so now i am back! xo Linda, your Fairy Blog Mother

Hi, Vernice! Just checking in to see how you've been. I wanted to let you know that I showed my husband your lovely mantle and he said he'd help me make one for our little stove! I hope Spring is "springing" for you up in your neck of the woods. It's finally getting a bit warmer and feeling more like Spring here in the foothills. Have a truly wonderful week! ~Mary
